Congratulations to Kathy of Irisheyes knitting blog! She is the winner of the mini contest in honor of my 150th post! As soon as I receive her mailing address, I will send her a prize package in the mail. (There were six comments, for which I numbered 6 slips of paper. I put them in a cup, shook it, and drew out #4, for the 4th post - Kathy's post.)
Yesterday I went shopping for fabric and other supplies to finish skuld. I decided to line the bag with fabric (and include inside pockets in the lining) and also to line the strap for support. This will not only give the bag a more finished look, it will prevent the strap and bag from stretching too much from the weight of the contents. I bought woven canvas strapping (used for belts) to line the strap. I chose a pretty green and off-white paisley for the lining, with enough fabric to line the bag in a double thickness, and add pockets. Photos of these are above and below.

I love your idea for making the strap stronger. I don't think I ever would have thought of sewing canvas to a bag, but it should work like a charm.
